Nery
I hope I'm doing enough for my financial future and that of my kids. It is frightening to see the mindset of people that I come across on a daily basis. Their plan for the future is government help. Unfortunately, they don't realize how short they will fall in meeting their financial needs. So is the situation with Nery. As you can see in the photos, Nery is 75 years old. She came from Cuba in the late 1960's, leaving behind all her family. She says she worked odd jobs since she arrived and never really planned for her older years. Five years ago, she suffered some minor health issues which prevented her from working temporarily and as a result she lost everything. She is now homeless and her government help is not enough. She sits all night in front of this Jewelry store until 5 a.m. when an employee of an adjacent restaurant allows her to sleep in her car. She maintains herself clean and well fed with the money she gets from her social security retirement, but at 75 she is scared she wont last much longer living on the streets. She is too proud to admit she needs help and won’t allow the “government” to tell her what to do.
